About Arboresq

Arboresq is an independent educational reference about the methods and techniques archaeologists use to study the past. We explain how stratigraphy, dating methods, remote sensing, laboratory analysis, and other approaches work — factually and objectively, without glamorizing excavation or promoting the buying and selling of artifacts.

What we cover

Each entry explains what a method is, how it works, how it is carried out step by step, what it reveals about the past, and its strengths and limitations. We aim to be accurate and neutral, and we correct or update entries when better sources become available.

How we work

Our entries are researched and written by the Arboresq editorial team. They are meant as a starting point for understanding, not as professional archaeological, legal, or financial advice. Methods vary across projects and regions, so what we describe is a general picture rather than a manual for excavation.
